- A strong math foundation — a degree in math, engineering, or a STEM field, or equivalent professional experience
- Some prior teaching, tutoring, or TA experience
- Patience for students who don't get it the first time, the third time, or the tenth
- Reliable internet and a quiet space for one-on-one sessions
